Opportunities for Elementary Age Children

Children are welcome at First Presbyterian Church of Lufkin. In fact, we make ministering to children a priority. Below is a list of our offerings for children. Please contact our church office for more information on any of these programs.

Sunday School
We use Season's of the Spirit, a Lectionary based curriculum for Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Sunday school begins at 9:30 each Sunday in the Synagogue room of the Children's Wing and the children are split into multi-age groups for workshops.

After School Program - Fish Camp
This after school program meets on Wednesdays from August - May from 3:30 until 5:30 and on Wednesday mornings during the summer months. The program begins with a snack and time to complete homework followed by a recreation time. The remainder of the time centers on activities designed around a Bible lesson. The children also have opportunities to participate in field trips and service projects.

Buckner Family Place Reading Buddies
Children travel to the library weekly and select books to be shared with the pre-school children at Buckner Family Place. This outreach after school program meets on Thursday afternoon during the school year and is scheduled for Thursday mornings during the summer months.

Children's Choir
We offer Children's Choir for K - 5th graders during the school year. Children's Choir meets at 5:30 - 6:00 each Wednesday. The children have the opportunity to learn basic music skills, sign language, hand chimes and other percussion instruments.

Music Camp
This summer vacation opportunity offers children to learn about God by participating in a musical. Each day will be full of songs, storytelling, arts and crafts, cooking and science activities, drama, games and special activities. Friends will want to participant in this exciting week. A T-shirt is provided along with snacks and lunch.
